By installing or using ChainCheck you agree to these terms.

What ChainCheck is

ChainCheck displays winter road conditions, chain control levels, weather forecasts, and resort snow reports for the Tahoe area, using data published by Caltrans, the CHP, the National Weather Service, Open-Meteo, and the resorts themselves. ChainCheck is an independent project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by any government agency or any resort.

The important part: verify before you drive. Mountain conditions change faster than any app can follow. Data can be wrong, delayed, or missing, and a summary produced by software (including the AI trip brief) can contain mistakes. ChainCheck never tells you that a road is safe. Before driving, verify conditions with official sources: dial 511 in California or check quickmap.dot.ca.gov. Whether and how to drive is always your decision and your responsibility.

No warranty

ChainCheck is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the developer is not liable for any damages arising from use of the app or reliance on the information it shows, including but not limited to damages from road conditions, closures, delays, accidents, or data inaccuracies.

Acceptable use

Do not use the app while driving; have a passenger check it or check it before you leave. Do not attempt to abuse, overload, or reverse the service. The app's source code is available under the MIT license at github.com/nicglazkov/chaincheck; the MIT license covers the code, and these terms cover the running service and the published app.

Service availability

The service is provided free of charge and may be changed, rate limited, or discontinued at any time without notice.
